We’re geeks for architectural design here at Lowndes, and Senior Housing News recently highlighted an innovative design by Sage Oak Memory Care in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Seeking to combine the feel and comfort of a 16-bed community with the functionality and logistics of an 80-bed community, Sage Oak Assisted Living and Memory Care CEO Loe Hornbuckle and his team ended up splitting 80 beds into five separate buildings. By design, residential units were reduced in size to encourage residents to spend more time in the common space. The common spaces were redesigned to contain an open kitchen/dining area, game areas, office, hair salon, library and a computer center.
