It wasn’t long ago that the elderly and active aging were out of touch with technology leading to little demand from them for devices such as smart phones. Companies such as Apple and Samsung are now placing a focus on seniors with products such as the Apple Watch and the Samsung Touch 3 which come pre-loaded with functions and apps that are or could be geared towards the elderly and active aging. These devices provide usable technology for seniors by providing them the ability to record and monitor physical activity, vital signs and other health related metrics as well as access meaningful senior oriented functions at the touch of a button. With tech companies now looking to attract the senior market with their products, senior communities and facilities should take a proactive role in educating their residents on the various available products that are specifically geared towards their residents as well as ensuring that such communities and facilities are designed to support those products.
